Borealis Saves the Day...Twice!
Steven Lemay

Earlier this month, the Borealis traveled to Ontario to perform for Music Toronto.  The day before going to Toronto, our management asked if we could fill in for the Aviv String Quartet from Israel for a couple of concerts following Music Toronto.  The Aviv was unable to perform a US tour because of visa issues.  Scrambling at the last minute to find available airline tickets and re-organize our itineraries, we flew then next day to Toronto with our new flights only just reserved!

Our performance in Toronto at the Jane Mallett Theatre was very successful and early the next morning we flew to Minneapolis.  Driving through some blizzard like conditions, we arrived in Brookings, South Dakota just in time to perform that night.  The concert went amazingly well considering our tired state and after a rousing audience response and a meet and greet, we had a quick dinner before heading to bed.  The next morning, we drove 5 hours to another city, Ames, Iowa just north of Des Moines and performed for another grateful presenter and audience.  After the concert, the presenter told us our concert was one of the highlights of their season!  However, the trip wasn't over.  We then traveled back to Minneapolis and Toronto to get back home to Vancouver... it was a longer trip than we'd expected, but everyone was so happy we could fill in for the Aviv String Quartet - we had saved the day!!
